About Us

Welcome to the Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association's Web Page.

Founded in 1987, SWVHJA’s mission statement is as follows:

The mission of the Southwest Virginia Hunter/Jumper Association is to promote and encourage good sport and good horsemanship; to better educate both the horse and rider for safety and enjoyment in the saddle and on the ground and most importantly, to develop knowledge for the humane treatment of the horse.

Membership Information:

SWVHJA is a member of the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA). SWVHJA offers numerous year-end awards to our members who show in recognized horse show divisions. Equitation Medal Finals for Pony, Hunt Seat and Adult Medals are also held at the Year End horse show.  For recognized divisions awarded Year End High Score awards see below.  In addition to the divisions below, SWVHJA also offers these special awards: High Point Rider 12& Under, Show Jumper of the Year and the Top Ten Thoroughbred awards.  SWVHJA also partners with VPBA to offer prizes to the top Virginia-bred ponies in the Small/Medium and Large Pony divisions.  See below for additional information.

The Virginia Pony Breeder's Association offers Champion and Reserve Champion awards to VPBA recorded Virginia Bred ponies being shown in SWVHJA recognized shows.
